Obituary

Vivian L. Smith, 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Hockessin, Delaware, on March 2, 2016 surrounded by her loved ones.
Vivian was born in Wilcox Pennsylvania to Charles and Violet Whippo Vonarx on August 15, 1924.

She was a graduate of Wilcox High School in 1942 and married Thomas J. Smith, of Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania in August of 1944. Prior to her marriage, she was employed as a private secretary to the President of Sylvania in Emporium and later as a secretary at Holgate Toy Company in Kane, Pennsylvania. Vivian moved to Delaware in 1966 and lived there until her death. She was a faithful member of Saint John the Beloved Parish in Wilmington, Delaware.

Vivian was proceeded in death by her parents, Charles and Violet Whippo Vonarx, her brothers and sister; Charles, Donald, Keith, Roger, and Jane McAlee, her loving husband, Thomas J. Smith, daughter, Lorie Jennings, and grandson, Gregory Smith.
She spent her entire life caring for, guiding and loving her fourteen children, Jerome Smith(Roberta), of Avondale, Pennsylvania, Thomas C. Smith(Donna), Bonnie Dodd (Gary), Patrick Smith (Suzanne) of Hockessin, Delaware, Pamela Young (Randolph) of Clifton, Virginia, Cynthia Robertson (Bruce) of Poulsbo, Washington, Brenda Thompson (John) of Elkton, Maryland, Marcia Pembroke (Michael), Sonja Ryan (Bart), Sara Smith of Newark, Delaware, Paula Green (David), Louisa Smith of Wilmington, Delaware, Vivian Reese(Carl) of Horsham, Pennsylvania. She leaves behind forty beautiful grandchildren and thirty-one amazing great grandchildren, daughters and sons in law, nieces and nephews, and her loving sister, Shirley Ann Smith of Wilcox, Pennsylvania.

Services will be held Wednesday morning, March 9, 2016, at 11:00 am at Saint John the Beloved Church on Milltown Road in Wilmington, Delaware.

Holy Rosary Cemetery Internment will take place in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania next to her beloved husband, who died in 1973.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Wilcox Public Library, P.O. Box 58 Wilcox, Pennsylvania 15870 or the Wilcox Presbyterian Church.

Friends and relatives will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home in Johnsonburg, PA from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon on Friday, March 11, 2016. Committal Service will be conducted at the Funeral Home at 12:00 Noon, following the visitation. Officiating will be Reverend John Barwin of Wilcox, Pa.
