Obituary

Thomas Alan Abplanalp, 67, of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, formerly of Johnsonburg, died peacefully Wednesday night, June 29, 2016.
He died at Pinecrest Manor where he had been a resident for the past five years and struggled many years with MS.

He was born Jan. 11, 1949 in Ridgway, son of the late Robert and Margaret McDonald Abplanalp.

He resided in St. Marys for the past five years and had lived in Johnsonburg for most of his life, and had lived in Shreveport, La. for 10 years.

He was a 1967 graduate of Johnsonburg High School and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Johnsonburg. He enjoyed playing cards and bingo with his friends. He was a Vietnam era veteran having served as a private in the U.S. Army. He received a medical discharge in 1970.
He had been employed by various restaurants as a bartender over the years.

His is survived by his sister, Susan, Mrs. John Bauer of Bloomsburg; his half-sister, Barbara, Mrs. Bernard Rymarchyk of Syracuse, N.Y.; his nieces, Stephanie, Mrs. Mike Bond, Gretchen Rymarchyk, Jessica Rymarchyk-Read and her husband Jeff and Stacy Rymarchyk; his nephew, Jeff Bauer; his grand-nieces, Kendra and Kassie Bond, Carley Bauer and Tala Solomon; and his grand-nephew, Jacob Bauer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister in infancy and a brother, Robert Abplanalp Jr.

A graveside service for Thomas Alan Abplanalp will be conducted Thursday, July 7 at 11 a.m. at Wardvale Lutheran Cemetery, Johnsonburg. Officiating will be Rev. Stephen Fair, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Johnsonburg. Interment will be in Wardvale Lutheran Cemetery.

Arrangements are under direction of the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg.
