Shirley C. Flacinski, 86, of 103 Clarion Rd., Johnsonburg, died early Monday morning, June 20, 2016 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
She was born July 22, 1929 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Fred and Alfercata Werner Nyquist.
She married Edward R. "Edge" Flacinski on Oct. 1, 1949 in St. Leo Magnus Church, Ridgway. He died July 31, 2012.
Shirley resided in Johnsonburg since her marriage. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Leo's High School.
She had been a member of Holy Rosary Church where she was very active in many church organizations. She was a member of the Cursillo Movement. She enjoyed being a caregiver to others. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren. She also loved gardening and refinishing furniture. She was a longtime volunteer at Elk County Catholic High School.
Shirley had worked briefly for the telephone company and St. Marys Carbon.
She is survived by two sons, Mark Flacinski and his wife Caroline of St. Marys and Richard Flacinski and his wife Shelli of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; two daughters, Jean, Mrs. Robert Dixon of St. Marys and Beth, Mrs. Richard Wendel of McKees Rocks; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Barbara Kosko of Worthington and Carol Nyquist of Hilton Head, N.C.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Christopher and Maryann Flacinski; a brother, Maurice Nyquist; and two sisters, Ruth West and Edna Mae Hyland.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley C. Flacinski will be conducted Saturday, June 25 at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg.
Officiating will be Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg. Friends will be received Friday evening, June 24 from 6-8 p.m. at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg.
