Mary M. Manno Thorwart, 95, of Silver Creek Terrace, St. Marys, formerly of 311 Mill St., Johnsonburg, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 7, 2017 at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys following a short illness.
She was born April 15, 1922 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Frank and Carmella Loiacono Manno. On Sept. 11, 1948 in St. Leo Magnus Church, Ridgway, she married Laurence Thorwart. He preceded her in death Nov. 24, 2009.
She resided in Johnsonburg for 65 years and was formerly of Ridgway. She graduated from Ridgway Area High School in 1940.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Church where she was a member of the Senior Church Choir for many years, was a Eucharistic Minister and served on the funeral luncheon committee. She was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, CD of A and the Johnsonburg Senior Center.
She had worked at Cliffe's and the Prescription Center in Ridgway, Sylvania in Emporium, Cronk's Flowers and the Elliott Co.
She is survived by two sons, Larry J. Thorwart and his wife Mary and Mark S. Thorwart and his wife Patti, all of State College; three daughters, Therese Skrzypek of St. Marys, Mary Laura "Laurie" Jones of Boalsburg and Cynthia "Cindy," Mrs. Geno Polaski of Johnsonburg; her grandchildren, Denise Leonard, Dawn and Joy Skrzypek, Traci McNamara, Christina Neis, Marcie Przybycien, Shana Polaski and Luke, Jacob, Stephen, Matthew and Joshua Thorwart; her great-grandchildren, Jessica, Emily and Nicole McNamara, Amanda Leonard, Andrea, JoJo, Alexis and Vivian Przybycien, Jane, Bernadette, Nicolas and Geno Neis and Caleb, Susannah and Bethany Thorwart and Eliza and Simon Thorwart; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Angelo, Nardino, Frank, Paul Anthony and Armand Manno; and two sisters, Val Sette and Clara Goneser.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary M. Thorwart will be conducted Friday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church. Officiating will be Rev. Justin Pino, pastor of St. Leo Magnus Church, Ridgway. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, on Thursday evening, Nov. 9 from 6-8 p.m.
