Joseph R. Feronti Jr., 84, of 1501 Silver Creek Rd., Johnsonburg, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 11, 2015 at the Lutheran Home at Kane following a brief illness.
He was born May 1, 1931 in Ridgway, son of the late Joseph R. and Nancy Anderson Feronti.
He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and was a 1948 graduate of Johnsonburg Area High School.
He was a Korean War veteran serving in the Army as a Sergeant with the 3rd division 140th tank battalion where he received the Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was very proud of his time in the Army and was proud to be a member of the American Legion and VFW. He loved sports and especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church.
He was known as "Texaco Joe" because he owned and operated the Texaco Service Station in Johnsonburg for 20 years, retiring in 1977. He had also worked for Bliskey Vending for several years.
He is survived by four sons, William David Feronti and his wife Melissa of Johnsonburg, Joseph R. Feronti of Johnsonburg, Randall Feronti and his wife Michelle of Rasselas and Rick Alan Feronti and his wife Ronda of Glen Hazel; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Jim Furlong and his wife Joyce of Johnsonburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Feronti; and a sister, Joyce Furlong.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph R. Feronti Sr. will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, on Friday, Nov. 13 from 2-4 p.m. and
