Obituary

John W. Kocjancic, Sr, 92, of 304 Elk Avenue, Johnsonburg, died peacefully at home, early Thursday afternoon, August 11, 2022. He was born January 14, 1930 on Bull Hill near Sheffield, PA a son of the late Joseph and Rose Komider Kocjancic. On October 20, 1956 in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg he married Arlene Jeanette McCafferty. She preceded him in death on April 6, 2006.

John was a graduate of Mt. Jewett High School and moved to Johnsonburg after his marriage in 1956 and lived in Johnsonburg for the past 66 years. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church where had been a member of the Parish Council and he was a member of the Johnsonburg Elks Lodge 612. John was a lifelong self-employed logger and woodsman. John together with his brothers was world renowned as a champion at various lumberjack events, holding several world records and competing at exhibitions and competitions at such places as Cherry Springs, Montreal and Washington, DC. Because of this recognition, in 1973, he and his brothers were asked to cut the National Christmas Tree in Washington, DC from Wildcat Park in Ludlow, PA.

John is survived by his children; Christine M. Imbrogno and her husband Michael of Wilcox, John W. Kocjancic, Jr. and his wife Laura of Johnsonburg, Suzanne L. Grumley and her husband James of Johnsonburg, Rosemary Duncan and her husband Kenneth of Rock Hill, SC, James D. Kocjancic of Fairview, PA, Beverly J. Gamble and her husband Michael and Joseph F. Kocjancic and his wife Patricia of Johnsonburg. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

John was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is predeceased by his parents, wife, his step-father John Paar, and brothers Joseph, Rudy and Edward Kocjancic.
A Mass of Christian Burial for John W. Kocjancic, Sr. will be conducted at St. Anne's Church, Wilcox on Tuesday August 16, 2022 at 10 AM with Fr. David J. Wilson, Pastor as celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F Ferragine Funeral Home and Cremation Services Chapel, 401 Chestnut Street Johnsonburg, PA on Monday evening, August 15, 2022 from 5 to 8 PM.
