Jerome E. "Jerry" Muroski, 81, of 501 Willow St., Johnsonburg, died Sunday morning, June 25, 2017 at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys following a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 9, 1935 in Ridgway, son of the late Leon and Mary Kazmierski Muroski.
He married Charlotte J. "Sharkey" Sereno on Sept. 13, 1958, she preceded him in death Nov. 7, 2016. He deeply loved his wife of 58 years and was her primary caregiver for many years prior to her death. He has now been reunited with his love Sharkey.
He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and was a 1953 graduate of Johnsonburg Area High School, graduated from Penn State University in DuBois and was awarded the Highest Academic Achievement Award for his graduating class.
He was a member of the Cursillo Movement. He had served as president of the Johnsonburg Area School District Board of Directors and had been on the Johnsonburg Knothole Board. He had coached both Knothole and American Legion Baseball.
Jerry was a member of Holy Rosary Church where he was active as a Lector and Extraordinary Minister. He was also on the Parish Festival Committee for many years and took pride in cooking his famous beef on weck for the festival. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Cinch, Cribbage and Pinochle. He loved spending time at Indian Lick Camp and especially enjoyed deer camp where he was the camp cook.
Jerry was a Korean War era veteran serving as a specialist with the U.S. Army.
He retired from Keystone Carbon Co. after 45 years as a project engineer. On April 4, 2000, he and his colleague Ned Jacob were awarded a U.S. patent for a powdered metal helical gear. He was also a technician on the Johnsonburg Community TV System for many years and was on the board of directors and was system engineer for the Johnsonburg Community TV System.
He is survived by two sons, Mark Muroski and his wife Lori of Johnsonburg and Rick Muroski of St. Marys; two daughters, Teri, Mrs. Brad Scott of Salisbury, Maryland and Sharon Muroski-Metheny and her husband Doug Metheny of Johnsonburg; his grandchildren, Bryan Muroski, Jami, Mrs. Cody Mathis, Andrea, Mrs. Ryan Bennett, Sarah, Mrs. Dustin Leader, Tony Jovenitti and Carley and Derek Scott; and his great-grandchildren, Aaron and Isabella Bennett, Bristol Mathis and Michael Leader.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by twin daughters in infancy, Mary and Helen; a grandson, Aaron Muroski; and two brothers, Robert and James Muroski.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jerome "Jerry" Muroski will be conducted Wednesday, June 28 at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg. Officiating will be Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor. Interment will be held in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, on Tuesday evening, June 27 from 6-8 p.m.
Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m.
