Frederick J. "Fred" Schill, 66, of 58 Launer Ln., Johnsonburg, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 6, 2015 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 2, 1948 in Kane, son of the late Ralph and Wilma Reed Schill. He married Sandra Lewis on Sept. 14, 1968 in St. Marys and she survives.
Mr. Schill resided in Johnsonburg for the past 44 years. He attended Queen of the World school.
He was a member of the VFW, Prince of Piedmont Club in Johnsonburg and Wilcox Sportsmen's Club.
Mr. Schill was a Vietnam era Army veteran serving as a SP4 Infantryman with Co. A, Sixth Battalion, Second Brigade USATCA for which he received the Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge.
He was employed by Domtar - the Johnsonburg Mill for 33 years. He had also worked for Pure Carbon for 15 1/2 years and Precision Homes of St. Marys.
In addition to his wife at home, he is survived by two sons, Lane M. Schill of Johnsonburg and Jay Schill at home; four grandchildren, Jacob M. Schill, Kylie Rankin, and Austin and Kira Pennington; and a sister, Janet Geer of Johnsonburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service for Frederick J. Schill will be conducted at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at 1 p.m.
Officiating will be Robert Johnson of the First Baptist Church in Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Friday, Jan. 9 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.
