Obituary

Evelyn C. Rippy, or Eby, as she was affectionately known entire life, 100, of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys and formerly of Second Avenue, Johnsonburg, died early Sunday morning, September 19, 2021 at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness. She was born April 25, 1921 in Johnsonburg, a daughter to Cecil L. and Carrie M. Schatz Rippy.

A lifelong resident of Johnsonburg, she was a 1938 graduate of Johnsonburg High School. She was a 1942 graduate of Clarion State Teachers College and received a Master's in Elementary Education from Penn State University in 1965. She also spent a year at London University in London, England and received an Associate's Degree in Comparative Education.

She was a member of Holy Rosary Church and had been a member of the Rosary Altar Society, she was a member of the Johnsonburg Senior Center, Elk County Historical Society, Johnsonburg Women's Club, ECCOTA and PASR. Aunt Eby, as she was known by her family was small in size, but larger than life. She was a second mother to nieces and nephews for many generations. She loved to play cards and golf at the country club and was an avid reader and loved to travel. She had a knack to make every person feel special and had a sense of humor that made being in her presence a complete joy. She was always there to offer a sympathetic ear to anyone in need of comfort, and her words of wisdom were highly valued.

She began her teaching career in elementary education in the "Llittle Red Schoolhouse" in Rathbun, PA teaching all 8 grades. She went on to teach in the St. Marys School District for 45 years before retiring in 1987. While teaching, her students found out she was a no-nonsense person when it came to learning and good behavior. She had the "Midas Touch" that most teachers strive for, but do not always achieve.

Eby is survived a brother Dick Rippy of Virginia Beach, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a brother Cecil "Bud" Rippy and sisters Marie Werner, Eileen Kowalski and Lucille Krieg.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn C. Rippy will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg on Thursday September 23, 2021 at 11 AM with Fr. Justin Pino, Pastor of St. Leo Magnus Church, Ridgway as celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
