Elizabeth "Betty" A. Nearing, 72, of 328 Rasselas Rd., Wilcox, died Sunday evening, May 6, 2018 at her residence following a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 9, 1945 in Baumertown, daughter of the late Steve and Katherine Watkavitch Scanish.
She married James M. Nearing on Nov. 6, 1965 in Holy Cross Church, Brandy Camp, and he survives.

She resided in Wilcox most of her life and had lived briefly in Brockway.
She was a 1963 graduate of Ridgway Area High School and was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg.
She had worked for the Community Nurses Inc. and had worked at Keystone Carbon Co. for seven years.

In addition to her husband at home, she is survived by two daughters, Mary, Mrs. Charles Wolf of Powell, Ohio and Sarah, Mrs. Steven Coy of Wilcox; and one brother, John "Sam" Scanish of Kersey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Steve "Ted" Scanish; and two sisters, Anna Carlson and Rosemary Schaut.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Elizabeth "Betty" A. Nearing to be conducted Friday, May 11 at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg. Officiating will be Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor. Interment will be private. There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are under direction of the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg.
