Edward G. “George” Parana, 94, of 272 Faries Street, Wilcox passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25th, 2026, at home after a lengthy illness. He was born on April 23rd, 1932, to Joseph and Anna Gluch Parana. On September 10th, 1956, he married his love Delores F. Strauss who passed on February 11th, 1988.
He was a graduate of Johnsonburg Area High School after which he entered the United States Air Force and worked on the Pratt & Whitney WASP R-4360 radial engines used on the Strategic Air Command’s B-50 and KC-97 bombers as a member of the 2nd Flight Maintenance Squadron based at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia. With the Air Force he had deployments to Africa and Europe. He also received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1955. After the Air Force, he enjoyed a long career as an employee of the Stackpole Corporation and later Kane Magnetics. Never a man to take a vacation, he spent a lot of his summers painting houses with his brother John. After he retired, he and a co-worker started McKean Magnetics where they enjoyed many days making magnets out of their little building on Mohney Lane in Kane.
George loved his house on Faries Street, the beautiful views of the rolling hills, sunsets, and evening summer breezes. He put a lot of work into making his house into a home and he and his wife Dee made it something special.
George was a member of Holy Rosary Church and attended mass at St. Anne’s Church in Wilcox. He was a member of the Wilcox American Legion, Wilcox Sportsman’s Club, and was a member of the Wilcox Volunteer Fire Department in the 1970’s and early 1980’s.
George is survived by his daughter Brenda Cleer and her companion Mike Rich of Kane and his sons Robert Parana of Wilcox, David Parana (Emily) of Kane, and daughter in law Cindy Parana of San Antonio, TX. He was a proud grandfather to Marisa Cleer (Brayden), Kevin Cleer, Kate Parana, Matt Parana, Brett Parana (Hannah), and Katrina Parana. He is also survived by his brother Thomas Parana (Carol) of Johnsonburg and many nieces and nephews.
