Obituary

Edward R. Flacinski, 88, of 103 Clarion Road, Johnsonburg, passed away Tuesday (July 31, 2012) at his residence following a prolonged illness.

Born Feb. 29, 1924, in Johnsonburg, he was a son of Stanley and Catherine Brzostek Flacinski. On Oct. 1, 1949, in St. Leo's Roman Catholic Church, Ridgway, he married Shirley Nyquist, who survives.

Mr. Flacinski graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1942. He served overseas in the U.S. Navy as AMM2C, with Air Transport Squadron 10, NAS Honolulu, USNH Pearl Harbor T.H. Nas and NAS Honolulu T.H.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Cursilo, Knights of Columbus, St. Josephs Society, Rolfe Sportsmens Club and the Central Hose Co. He served as president of Johnsonburg Borough Council and was instrumental in securing the property for the Johnsonburg Medical Center.

Mr. Flacinski was employed by the Johnsonburg Paper Mill and retired from Penntech Paper Co. in 1992 following 49 years of service.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mark (Caroline) Flacinski of St. Marys and Richard (Shelli) Flacinski of Hopewell Junction, N.J.; two daughters, Jean (Robert) Dixon of St. Marys and Beth (Richard) Wendel of McKees Rocks; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Henry (Lois) Flacinski of Florida; and one sister, Jennie (Brownie) Hoffman of Brockway. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Christopher and Maryann; three brothers, Chester, Joseph, and Alex; and two sisters, Sophie Miller and Wanda Cooney.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, with the Rev. David A. Wilson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg. Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday morning under the direction of the Johnsonburg-Wilcox Veterans Burial Detail. Members are requested to assemble at the funeral home by 9:15 a.m. Saturday morning.
