Obituary

Dominic A. "Tony" DiNardo, 98, of Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys, formerly of Ridgway Road, Johnsonburg, died early Sunday morning, March 1, 2015 at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.

He was born Dec. 7, 1916 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Ralph and Serafina Marrone DiNardo.

He married Jehanne L. Segart in Chartres, France in 1946, she died Nov. 5, 1984. He married Eileen E. Johnson Lafarr on July 28, 1989, she died Feb. 6, 2011.

He resided in Johnsonburg all his life. He graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1936. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church where he was a former member of the Board of Directors, a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Funeral Luncheon Committee, an usher and a member of the Cemetery Committee. He was an avid sports fan. He also loved to play Scrabble and do gardening and landscaping.

He was a WWII Army veteran serving overseas as a sergeant with the PW Overhead Detachment #2021 where he received the EAME Campaign Medal, Good Conduct, WWII Victory, American Campaign and American Defense Campaign Medals.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1976 as the Postmaster in Sigel. He had worked for the Postal Service for 30 years and had worked in the Johnsonburg Post Office.

He is survived by one daughter, Maria Elliott of St. Marys; one grandson, Aaron Anthony Elliott and his wife Carrie of Scio, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Kylee Elliott; one sister, Almerinda "Al" Ewing of St. Marys; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James "Duke," Ottaviano "Tom," John, George and Noah DiNardo; and his sisters, Elizabeth Casciani and Josephine Torchia.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Dominic A. "Tony" DiNardo will be conducted Thursday, March 5 at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg with Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received Thursday morning, March 5 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg.

Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Thursday morning at 9:15 a.m.
