Bernard A. Martonik, 91, of Dahoga Road, Wilcox, passed away Sunday morning, June 21, 2026, surrounded by family, at the Lutheran Home at Kane, following a lengthy illness. He was born August 12, 1934, in Tarentum, PA, a son to the late Matthew and Mary Sloboda Martonik. On June 15, he celebrated his 64th Wedding Anniversary with is wife the former Patricia “Pat” Kuchek, whom he married June 15, 1962, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Kensington, PA.
Bernard attended St. Clement High School in Tarentum, PA and Trade School to become and Automobile Mechanic, specializing in transmissions.
Moving to Wilcox in 1966, Bernerd has been a member of St. Anne’s Church and the Wilcox Sportsmen’s Club. He loved spending time with his family, especially outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening, ammunition reloading and raising beef cattle and chickens on their small family farm.
A Korean Era Army Vet, Bernard served overseas as a Private First Class with the 502nd Armored MED CO.
Bernard retired from Abbott Furnace Co. in 1996 after many years of service. He had also worked at Kane Hardwoods in the maintenance dep’t. for many years and at Bruno Manno Fabricating and PPG in Creighton, PA.
In addition to his wife Patricia “Pat” Martonik at home, Bernard is survived by 4 sons, David Martonik and his partner Patty Pritt of Wilcox, Ronald Martonik (Jackie) of DuBois, Joseph Martonik (Rhonda) of Johnsonburg and Michael Martonik (Jessica) of Kane and his grandchildren Mason Martonik (Lauren), Paige Martonik-McCay (Matt McCay), Tyler Matrtonik, Douglas Martonik, Veronica Martonik, Beau Martonik, Kurtis Martonik (Abigail), Sadie Martonik and Ashlyn Schutz. Great Grandchildren Jax and Hatcher Martonik also survive.
He is also survived by two sisters, Gertrude Jonnet of Springdale, PA and Rose Jacobs (Ron) of Duncannon, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.f
In addition to his parents, Bernard is predeceased by a granddaughter Taylor Schutz, a brother Richard Martonik and a sister Helen Prasnikar.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Bernard A. Martonik to be conducted at St. Anne’s Church, Wilcox, on Monday June 29, 2026, at 10:30 AM with Fr. David Wilson, pastor as celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Rasselas. Visitation will be private.
Arrangements are under direction of the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 401 Chestnut Street, Johnsonburg.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg-Wilcox-Ridgway Servicemen’s Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Monday morning, June 29, 2026, at 9:30 AM.
