Obituary

Bernard T. "Bernie" Gapinski, 86, of 407 High St., Johnsonburg, died Saturday morning, Dec. 13, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys following a brief illness.

He was born May 27, 1928 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Joseph and Josephine Butts Gapinski.
On Sept. 16, 1961 in Holy Cross Church, Brandy Camp, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Zambanini, and she survives.

A 1946 Johnsonburg High School graduate, he was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg Senior Center, and Knights of Columbus Council 2007.

He was a Korean Era Army veteran having served as a Corporal with Battery C 14th AAA Gun Battalion out of Ft. Myer, Va.
He was employed by Penntech Paper Co. of Johnsonburg for 35 and a half years before retiring in 1991. He resided in Johnsonburg all his life.

He had also worked for B&O Railroad, and worked construction for Russ Engineering and W.H. Christie.
He loved gardening and hunting and tinkering in his workshop.

In addition to his wife at home, he is survived by two daughters, Cheryl, Mrs. Carl Moore of St. Marys, and Donna Gapinski of Johnsonburg; two brothers, Chester Gapinski of Johnsonburg, and Robert "Buck" Gapinski of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Vera, Mrs. Edward Zambanini of Kersey, and Agnes Tassone of Johnsonburg; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward, John, Thomas and Walter Gapinski, and sisters Helen Micklitsch, Genevieve Muroski, Sophie Lentz and Margaret "Marge" Petzold.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernard T. Gapinski will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg with Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m.
Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg-Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m.
