Obituary

Angelo R. Tassone, 93, of 5328 Ridgway-Johnsonburg Rd., Johnsonburg, died Sunday afternoon, Sept. 10, 2017 at Penn Highlands Elk in St. Marys.

He was born Jan. 31, 1924 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Salvatore and Helen Elena Vavala Tassone.

He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1942.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg Senior Center and the International Society of Poets. He had been a volunteer at Elk Regional Health Center. He was good at carpentry and was especially good at bricklaying and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Angelo was a WWII Army veteran serving overseas in North Africa and Italy as a Pfc with the 977th Signal Service Co. For his service he received the American Theater Ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was employed by Consolidated Railroad for 25 years before retiring in 1982.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Janet Helen Tassone; two sons, Ralph Tassone and his wife Karen of Johnsonburg and Robert Tassone and his wife Angela of Johnsonburg; four daughters, Rosemary Tassone, Mrs. Mark Mercer, Ramona, Mrs. Jeff Horchen, Renee, Mrs. Tom Coppolo and Rhonda, Mrs. Scott Horchen; his grandchildren: Shawn Tassone, Jana, Mrs. Todd Walters, Keith, Bobby and Rachel Tassone, Andrew and Anthony Clerkin, Sara McAlee, Randi, Mrs. Ryan Means, Justin Horchen, Joleen, Mrs. Jeremy Green, Cara, Marlee and Devon Horchen, Lindsey and Randy Tassone, Alex, Meghan and Emma Coppolo; and his great-grandchildren, Brayden and Kendyl Walters, Remmick and Reid Means, Owen and Harper Green, Anthony Clerkin Jr. and Adrianna, Alexis, Annabelle, Aiden and Andi Clerkin, Blake and Declan Farnsworth, Carson and Angelo Tassone.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Randy Tassone; a grandson, Steven Johnson; four brothers, Joseph, Fritz, Eugene "Herbie" and Stephen "Chippy" Tassone; and one sister, Rose Tassone.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Angelo R. Tassone to be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg. Officiating will be Rev. Justin Pino. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m.
There will be a private family visitation Tuesday evening, Sept. 12 from 6-8 p.m.

Arrangements are under direction of the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg.
