Angelo W. Pollino, 90, of 430 Fourth Ave., Johnsonburg, formerly of Brockway, died Monday night, Jan. 16, 2017 at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
He was born July 17, 1927 in Erie, son of the late Tony and Mary Baruffalo Pollino.
On Nov. 3, 1973, he married Eleanor DeMarte Vavala and she survives.
Angelo resided in Johnsonburg since 1973. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, PennDOT Workers Union, Kersey American Legion and the Eagles. He loved to play poker, especially at the casino, and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He was a WWII era Navy veteran serving as a Seaman 1st Class first aboard the USS Egeria and later with Sub Group, 19th Fleet out of Portland, Oregon.
He was employed by PennDOT for 23 years before retiring in 1984. He was also self-employed as a strip mine excavator.
In addition to his wife at home, he is survived by two daughters, Marcene "Marcie" Castiglione of Orchard Park, New York and Michelle, Mrs. Tom McIntosh of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada; two stepsons, Jude Vavala and his wife Theresa of St. Marys and Paul Vavala and his wife Sally of Kersey; two stepdaughters, Liz, Mrs. Rick Boni of Ridgway and Josie, Mrs. Joe Feikel of Kane; five grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Pollino and his wife Betty Lou of Toby; and two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Angelo W. Pollino will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg. Officiating will be Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brandy Camp.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, on Friday evening, Jan. 20 from 6-8 p.m.
Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m.
